It does leave a red ring aroud his mouth when he's been sucking too long, but it goes away within minutes of no use.I especailly like the fact that when it falls out of his mouth it makes a semi-loud clicking noise as it clamps shut.I know to hurry up and get it back in his mouth before he goes crazy :) I bought this from Motherhood maternity store but just purchased extras from Amazon. Very happy customer!!
